Maybe it's because we'd just gotten home from Boston and had THE BEST cannoli in the North End, but I could not wait to try this Sweet Cannoli Dip from Trader Joe's. 

You'll find this in a tub near the hummus and savory dips in the refrigerated section. An 8-ounce tub costs $3.99.

The package description reads, "Inspired by the delectable filling inside a cannoli."

According to Ciao Florentina, traditional cannoli filling is made from sheep's milk ricotta mixed with sugar. Trader Joe's Cannoli Dip has cream cheese as its leading ingredient. Ricotta is third on the list after cream cheese and sugar. 

Cannoli recipes to love:

• cannoli cupcakes (the farmgirl gabs)
• mocha cannoli (bake at 350)
• cannoli cake (sprinkle bakes)
• chocolate chip cookie dough cannoli (the domestic rebel)

[NOTE: I thought it would be fun to scoop with dip with broken ice cream cones. I do not recommend. The cones shatter, the pieces aren't great sizes for dipping, and it's a mess. Try breadsticks, fruit, or graham crackers.]

REVIEW (Bridget): Is this a yummy sweet dip? Yes. Does it taste like cannoli filling? No. I can only say that with confidence because of our recent trip to Boston's North End (Little Italy section). The creamy and sweet dip reminded me of a sweet cream cheese spread for bagels. The texture is soft; it's fluffy at first but loosens when stirred. This dip would be lovely served with fresh fruit at a bridal or baby shower. I think for the price, though, you could easily make a version of it at home that yields a larger quantity for a smaller price.

Will I buy it again? Likely not.
