Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips Review
He says (brother N, age 11): Trader Joe's Ghost Pepper Potato Chips is a great experience for some people, but it is not for the faint of heart. I discovered that the ghost pepper was actually the hottest pepper in the world in 2017! When I first bit into the latticed snack, it tasted a lot like a regular BBQ potato chip. After the BBQ flavor dissolved, I was subjected to a very spicy aftertaste. The spice managed to stay on my tongue even minutes after I chewed it. I have always liked spicy things, so this was not an unpleasant experience for me. I do know plenty of people who do not like spice, so I would warn people before they try this chip. I drank a whole 4 cups of water after I ate a handful of them, so this is a great way to hydrate yourself or convince someone else to drink water.
The price is pretty reasonable for a bag of chips, and I believe that this is because something this spicy might give off an unpopular vibe and not the quality of the ingredients. I only ate a few chips, but it would probably be too much trying to eat as much as you would with a regular bag of potato chips. The warnings showcasing that this is an extremely spicy chip were on the back of the package, so they are not visible when you pick them up at Trader Joe's unless you examine them carefully. Overall, I thought it was an interesting snack that I am glad to have tried.
Overall rating: 4.5 of 5 stars
She says (sister B, age 8): These Ghost Pepper Potato chips were overly spicy by taste but also contained the upbeat flavor of barbecue. When I tasted these chips at first, ready for a blast of spice, I thought that the spicy flavor must've been hidden by the overpowering taste of barbecue. But later, I discovered that the chips had an incredibly hot aftertaste that only hit after they had been eaten. The aftertaste lasts for minutes, even when you've drank some water. For those of you who prefer simple, spiceless tastes, I would not recommend this snack to you. Although if you love spicy and crave hot flavor, this is the perfect barbecue snack for you!
Overall rating: 2 of 5 stars
Would they buy them again?
(N): These chips will probably be a one-time thing, but that does not mean I did not enjoy them. These chips cannot easily be inserted into a party or a gathering, and eating too many of them in a short period of time can have negative side effects, so that is why they are hard to buy continuously.
(B): If you simply modify this question to have only a yes or no answer, my answer would be no. Sure, the taste was filled with spice and barbecue, but the overall flavors didn't add up. I would rather buy a more plain bag of potato chips, one with less ongoing heat.
