Trader Joe's Thai Banana Fritters Review

Trader Joe's Thai Banana Fritters box

I'll admit that these have been in our freezer for a while - there's always something else in there calling to me: ice cream sandwiches, tartspancakes, etc. Last time I was in store, I did verify that Trader Joe's Thai Banana Fritters were still in stock.

You'll find Trader Joe's Thai Banana Fritters in the freezer section. A 6.7-ounce box costs $2.99. They're a product of Thailand.

What are Thai Banana Fritters? They're described on the box as "sliced thai namwa bananas in a coconut milk, rice flour and sesame seed batter."

We used the heating instruction for oven, and, once again, it seems Trader Joe's has underestimated the bake time. Even looking at the time, I thought...that doesn't seem like enough. I was right. Biting into a still chilly banana fritter isn't super pleasant.

Trader Joe's Thai Banana Fritters look like chicken strips

Trader Joe's Thai Banana Fritters Review

She says (Bridget): Strangely, these banana fritters (that look like chicken fingers) don't taste much like banana. The taste reminds me more of funnel cake - it would even be more so had we sprinkled these with a copious amount of powdered sugar. Despite being baked and not fried, these are a bit greasy, and I didn't find they crisped up like the package directions said they would. I think these would be really great served with a side of vanilla soft serve. That's IF I could get over them looking like chicken fingers.

Overall rating: 3.5 of 5 stars

He says (Mark): These were a new twist on a banana dessert. Last week on a trip to California, I had Thai food, but I saw nothing like this on the menu. The batter has a nice texture, and I liked the taste and mouth feel of the thinner pieces. I might serve these to guests, as a small sweet treat on a Thai-inspired menu, but I would not buy them for myself.

Overall rating: 3 of 5 stars

Would I buy them again? I don't think so.
