Trader Joe's Pumpkin Overnight Face Mask Review

Pumpkin lovers UNITE! (You might hear a lot of that in the next couple of months.) Why relegate pumpkin only to fall eats? Pumpkin is for the face and body, too! See Trader Joe's Pumpkin Body Butter made with pumpkin seed oil. 

In addition to body butter, TJ's offers a Pumpkin Overnight Face Mask. Here's part of the description on the box, "Pumpkin...embraces the opportunity to rejuvenate and revitalize your skin." And more, "...with plant-derived squalane, along with botanical extracts and sodium hyaluronate to leave your skin feeling soft and rejuvenated."

A 2-ounce jar of Trader Joe's Pumpkin Overnight Face Mask costs $6.99. To use: smooth on a generous layer at night, then wash face thoroughly in the morning. The mask can be used daily. 

Ingredients include: water, glycerin, propanediol, squalane, dimethicone, pumpkin fruit extract, papaya extract, etc...

I was curious about squalane because TJ's called it out on the package, and I wasn't familiar with it. After doing a bit of reading, I found that it's a moisturizing ingredient found in humans, animals, and plants. It's naturally occurring in foods such as eggs and vegetable oil, but for cosmetics and supplements, it's most frequently harvested from SHARKS! What? So, I was happy that Trader Joe's noted that the squalane here is plant-based.

REVIEW (Bridget): Bear in mind that this is my review after using the mask for two nights in a row. Any long-term results remain to be seen. OK. This smells DIVINE. Not as intense as a pumpkin spice latte, but like a lovely, whipped pumpkin meringue...on my face. The texture is silky and absorbs well. The package says to apply a generous layer until "mostly absorbed." That's a good way to describe it - there wasn't a thick layer of mask on my face, but it was not completely absorbed into my skin. The next morning after washing my face as instructed, I noticed a softness to my skin. I don't see any discernable difference when looking in the mirror. Do I love falling to sleep to the scent of a pumpkin cloud? YES.

Would I buy this again? Probably not more than once a year, but it's a nice little inexpensive treat that feels like a fall luxury.
