Are you a fan of butternut squash and pumpkin pasta dishes? I certainly am! Honestly, give me butternut squash and pumpkin everything from September to Thanksgiving.
Today, Mark and I review Trader Joe's Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese Bites. You'll find them in the freezer section. A package of 10 bites costs $3.99. Serving suggestion is 3 bites per serving.

The first ingredient listed on the box is butternut squash, so these are definitely not butternut in name only. Other ingredients of note include: heavy cream, gouda cheese, breadcrumbs, and ginger. Cooking instructions are included for both the oven and air fryer. We used the oven instruction, and once again, Trader Joe's underestimates the time for cooking.
Trader Joe's Butternut Squash Mac & Cheese Bites Review
She says (Bridget): These taste about as good as they look on the inside - dreary. Oh, I wanted to love them. The mac & cheese bites are mushy and bland. The breadcrumb coating could definitely use a cooking technique like the Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal Bites. Crisped up in a pan with a bit of oil would have made the exterior texture more palatable; I'm not sure it could have saved texture or flavor of the insides, though.
Overall rating: 2 of 5 stars
He says (Mark): While the heating directions seemed to be off, once cooked properly, these were a hearty option. I LOVE mac-n-cheese, so I had high hopes. I don’t mind butternut squash, but not necessarily combined with pasta and cheese. The mac and cheese was rich and creamy, and the bread crumb coating is awesome. The squash squashed the star rating down to a three for me.

Would I buy them again? Nope.
