This pizza was definitely calling my name from the frozen aisle. "Bridget...pick meeeeeee!" Trader Joe's Roasted Garlic and Pesto Pizza with Deep-Fried Crust is the subject of this week's He Said/She Said review.
We love Trader Joe's refrigerated pizza crusts and pizza sauce (red and pesto), but as of yet, we haven't found a frozen pizza offering that really knocks our socks off. I'm hoping this will be the one.
Trader Joe's Roasted Garlic and Pesto Pizza with Deep-Fried Crust costs $5.99. From the box copy, "...four Italian cheeses, cashew & pine nut pesto, and a chewy Naples style crust." On the back of the box, it's noted that the pizza dough goes through a 3-4 day fermentation process and is deep-fried for a unique chewy crust.

She said (Bridget): This is it, friends. The best frozen pizza I've had from Trader Joe's. The crust definitely is unique - while still traditional, unlike their cauliflower offerings. With a crunchy edge, the crust has a chewy, moderately thick base. It's almost as if the pizza was assembled on a really great piece of artisan bread. Similar in a way to focaccia - heavy on the olive oil with a springy texture. Roasted garlic and pesto are beautiful together. I could easily have eaten the entire pie myself. [Note to self: buy one to eat when Mark has a business dinner.]

He said (Mark): Trader Joe’s RGAPP raises the bar on frozen pizza. The garlic was just right and didn’t leave me looking for mouthwash afterward. And, the dollops of pesto were not only pleasing to the eye but to the taste buds. TJ’s didn’t skimp on the cheese either. Well done!
